Amar la Bomba

Amar la bomba, the Afro Puertorrican folkloric group of New Brunswick lead by Nelson Baez, had their final presentation on Saturday May 17th. New Brunswick area students from 5 to 16 years old,  performed at the New brunswick charter school for parents and Bomba lovers. Bomba is as old in PR as the presence of African Slaves in the New World, and it is one of the those rhythms in the caribbean considered and declared by United Nations as  patrimony of humanity.

New Brunswick Public Library

Pictures of the final presentation of the New Brunswick Public Library where kids and their families had a great time on saturday may 17th with the different workshops offered by CARTS' artists and staff. Yilis and Richard offered a chichigüa-chiringa-cometas-papalotes-dominican kites workshop. Linda showed the kids how to make a beautiful animal mask with the band or stripe method, Leo taught the kids how to make their own wallets with their parent's duct tape, and claudio played some theater improvs. The afternoon was very successful and we all had a great time.

facilitating artists forms

The Facilitating artists report form is under comments in this post.

Thursday, May 8, 2008

On a beautiful Wednesday morning we had our mid-point meeting with the artists working in South Jersey. The meeting was held at Rutgers Camden with the assistance of Carmen and Noreen. The morning started with a writing workshop taught by South Jersey Poet and Teacher Lamont Dixon. In the Afternoon we talked about reporting and feed back forms. We had a great meeting, the poetry written by the participants in Lamont's workshop was not only a reflection of this year CARTS process, but also a hilarious account of our journeys.
